The Thumbnail Designer Intern will support the creation of visually compelling, high-converting thumbnails that maximize click-through rates across YouTube and other digital platforms. This role combines creative design, audience psychology, and performance analysis, and offers hands-on exposure to how thumbnails are conceptualized, tested, and optimized for real content.
The ideal candidate has a keen eye for composition, typography, color, and visual storytelling, along with a genuine interest in digital content trends and user behavior - and is eager to learn in a fast-paced, feedback-driven environment.
Assist in designing high-impact thumbnails for YouTube videos, podcasts, interviews, explainers, and other digital content.
Support the creation of visually engaging concepts that communicate the video's key hook within seconds.
Help ensure thumbnails align with brand guidelines while remaining bold, attention-grabbing, and platform-optimized.
Learn to maintain consistency in visual identity across different brands and content categories.
Collaborate with Creative Strategists, Scriptwriters, Video Editors, and Pod Leads to understand the core content narrative.
Practice translating content hooks into compelling visual concepts under guidance.
Contribute to multiple thumbnail variations for testing and optimization.
Learn to balance creativity with clarity to improve clickability without misleading viewers.
Assist in analyzing thumbnail performance using CTR, impressions, watch time, and engagement data.
Support A/B testing efforts to identify high-performing visual styles, layouts, typography, and color treatments.
Help maintain a library of successful design patterns and reusable templates.
Work closely with Video Editors to ensure thumbnails accurately represent the final video.
Coordinate with production and strategy teams to meet publishing deadlines.
Manage a few thumbnail requests at a time while building speed and quality.
Incorporate feedback efficiently and apply it to future work.
Stay updated with YouTube trends, creator ecosystems, and evolving thumbnail design best practices.
Benchmark competitor channels and industry leaders to identify emerging visual trends.
Experiment with AI-assisted creative tools and new design styles under mentorship.
Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Multimedia, Fine Arts, or a related field.
0–1 year of experience (personal projects, coursework, or freelance work in digital design/thumbnails is a plus).
A portfolio (even student or personal projects) showcasing design sensibility and visual storytelling.
Prior exposure to media agencies, content studios, or creator-led businesses is a bonus, not required.

Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop.
Basic familiarity with Adobe Illustrator and/or Figma.
Interest in AI-powered design tools such as Adobe Firefly, Midjourney, or equivalent is a plus.
Good understanding of typography, composition, color theory, hierarchy, and visual storytelling.
Creative Skills
Interest in audience psychology and click behavior.
Willingness to learn curiosity-driven visual design without resorting to clickbait.
Familiarity with the YouTube ecosystem and creator trends.
Ability to generate multiple creative concepts with guidance.
