About the Role
At Kavana, we're building an AI-powered storytelling platform in a chat interface. Every story puts you in a role, surrounds you with AI characters, and unfolds as you chat with them.
You'll join a small engineering team owning core backend systems — the APIs powering real-time conversations, the pipelines keeping AI characters responsive and coherent, and the infrastructure that needs to hold up as we scale. We're seed-funded and moving fast to define what the next entertainment format looks like.
You might be the right fit if…
3+ years engineering experience
You are excited about working on LLM powered products
You consider yourself power user of claude code
Have 2+ years of experience building on AWS and GCP
Strong understanding of distributed messaging systems and queueing patterns (e.g., consumer groups, partitioning, retries etc.)
Comfortable with PostgreSQL (schema design, indexes, migrations) and MongoDB (schema design, TTLs)
Built and scaled REST/WebSocket APIs in Python/Django for real-time, AI-powered interaction
Thrives in fast-paced environments and can ship features weekly, sometimes daily

We actively use calude code or whatever is best agentic coding harness, and prefer candidates who are actively hacking and making most of these tools
