Bengaluru
smallcase operates at the intersection of technology & wealth management — building the compounding layer for Indian household savings. Across model portfolios, index funds/ETFs and securities-backed credit, we are developing the next-gen investment product platform for millions of individual investors to help them design better financial futures & outcomes. The thesis is simple: as Indians' wealth gets more financialized, every part of this stack grows
The Founders' Office sits at the center of how all the group brands & businesses (smallcase, Tickertape, Zerodha Fund House) operate — closest to the decisions that shape direction, and responsible for making them land. It is not a strategy role in the conventional sense. The work is real: building something from zero, owning a problem end-to-end, representing the founders in conversations that matter, and moving fast on things others wouldn't yet know how to structure
Domain fluency
You understand how wealth and asset management works in India — the regulatory landscape, the distribution dynamics, the product categories, the competitive structure. Exposure to technology-first players in this space is a strong advantage. You don't need to be an expert in all our businesses on day one, but you need to be able to get there quickly
Generalist instincts
You are not a specialist looking for a well-scoped function. You are comfortable being handed a problem you haven't seen before, building a frame for it, and producing a result
Strong communication
You write & articulate clearly and concisely. You can adapt — a board deck and a team memo require different things, and you know the difference. You can represent a nuanced position accurately without losing the thread. Creative thinking helps here: the best communication at this level can't be templatized
Bias for action
You move with a sense of urgency that isn't just performative. You'd rather ship something imperfect and iterate than deliberate towards a perfect plan. When something needs to happen, you make it happen
Experience required
We are not rigid about years or pedigree. What matters is that you have done real work in wealth or asset management — directly or in an adjacent role, or through a tech company serving that space — and that you can demonstrate the instincts above. Prior experience in a high-velocity environment (a startup, an early-stage fund, a consulting team that moved fast) is a plus, not a requirement
– A role with a fixed scope that you can optimize without learning new things
– An entry point into a single function with a clear progression ladder (not for the first few quarters atleast, we have had founders' office members move into business/product/corporate roles with fixed mandates as well)
– A defined role where output is defined for you every quarter
– A comfortable perch from which to observe how a company operates
– Direct access to how decisions get made at the group level
– Accountability that is real — you own outcomes, not just tasks
– A front-row seat to multiple businesses operating across the full wealth stack
– The fastest way to understand how a fintech group gets built from the inside
