We’re looking for a backend engineer who has run real production systems at scale — especially content-heavy, media-driven products — and wants ownership beyond a single service. You’ll work directly with the founders on live products, designing and owning backend systems and infrastructure end to end, and helping the rest of the team make better technical decisions.
What we need
Strong TypeScript / Node.js in production
Strong system design and architecture fundamentals you’ve made real architectural decisions on production systems and can reason about trade-offs, scalability, and failure modes
Solid PostgreSQL, Redis, and queue/background-processing experience
Hands-on AWS, Docker, and Linux
Experience with CDN and media delivery serving images/video at scale, caching strategy, optimizing for cost and latency (CloudFront or equivalent)
You’ve personally seen production systems break under load, understood why, and fixed them traffic spikes, DB bottlenecks, queue backlogs, media-delivery issues, outages, deployment failures
How you work
You think about how a system behaves as traffic grows, where it fails, and how it should be monitored not just the ticket in front of you
You can break down an unfamiliar problem, question assumptions, and reason to a practical solution
You’re comfortable reviewing designs, challenging decisions, and raising the bar for the team
Nice to have: Generative AI in production — integrating LLM, image, or video model APIs into backend services, including agentic / tool-calling workflows, BullMQ, ECS/Fargate, CloudWatch, Terraform, CI/CD, WebSocket's, video upload/transcoding pipelines, AWS cost optimization.
We care more about the depth of your ownership and how you think through hard problems than years on paper.
