Oolka has built India's first agentic AI platform for credit management. Our AI agent, Dhruva, negotiates on its own with banks, lenders and credit bureaus on behalf of our users. It resolves their issues rather than just advising on them.
You'll join a small, high-bar frontend team building a consumer finance super-app used by millions of users across pods such as Loans, Personal Finance and Credit.
Your primary charter is the client stack behind the Oolka consumer app and Dhruva's conversational experience. Our frontend engineers own both conversational and non-conversational journeys across business pods. On the conversational side, that means everything from the moment a user sends a message, through Dhruva's negotiation with financial institutions, to final resolution: the real-time chat interface, a transport-agnostic messaging layer, and an offline-first local data architecture.
We're looking for engineers who understand what happens under React Native: on the JS thread, across the native boundary, and in the OS. Using the framework well is not enough on its own.
Build the real-time chat and AI-native UI: streaming responses, polymorphic message types from a single data stream, and inline actionable widgets.
Design a transport-agnostic communication layer (WebSocket, HTTP long-polling/SSE, push) with robust connection lifecycle, reconnection and back-pressure handling.
Architect the offline-first data layer: sync strategy, conflict resolution and schema migrations (SQLite / WatermelonDB).
Handle mobile edge cases properly: app backgrounding and process death, OAuth token refresh, network degradation, and error recovery.
Drive app performance: startup time, JS thread and frame budget, memory, bundle size, and network and battery use.
Write and review high-quality, well-tested TypeScript, and raise the code quality bar for the team.
Build reusable internal modules and SDKs that other pods can use.
Fundamentals (non-negotiable)
Strong grasp of networking and protocols: HTTP/1.1 vs 2, caching, WebSockets, and OAuth 2.0 / token-based auth flows.
JavaScript internals: the event loop, closures, memory and garbage collection, and async patterns.
How React Native works inside: threading model, the old bridge vs JSI, Fabric / TurboModules, Hermes, and the reconciler.
OS-level understanding: Android and iOS app lifecycle, processes and threads, and resource use (CPU, memory, battery).
Hands-on native work: you've written or debugged native modules in Kotlin/Java and/or Swift/Obj-C, and you read library source when docs fall short.
Experience
Production React Native apps shipped to both the Play Store and the App Store, ideally consumer apps at scale.
Strong TypeScript, with strict types derived from backend API contracts.
State management for concurrent async state (Redux / Zustand / React Query or equivalent).
Android performance work: FlatList/FlashList tuning, memory profiling, and Hermes profiling.
How you work
Very hands-on: you ship well-tested features with little hand-holding.
Curious about internals: you debug down to the native layer instead of working around problems.
You take a vague problem and turn it into a shipped, well-built solution.
Mobile system design: offline sync, real-time systems, modular app architecture.
You partner with Backend, Product and Business leads to set the agenda, not just carry it out.
You raise the team's level through code reviews, design docs and mentoring.
Strong plus
Consumer super-app or fintech experience.
Built frameworks, SDKs or shared libraries (internal or open-source).
Shipped measurable gains in startup time, app size, network efficiency or crash rate.
