What you'll do
Take products from concept and prototype to production, owning the engineering from the first line of code (0→1 product development).
Design and build scalable backend systems, APIs, databases, and infrastructure from the ground up.
Make architectural and technical decisions across the entire development lifecycle, with minimal guidance.
Build and launch rapidly without compromising on the fundamentals required for production-quality software.
Work across backend, infrastructure, integrations, AI workflows, and internal tooling.
Integrate APIs, payment providers, authentication systems, external data sources, and other services required to launch products quickly.
Build background jobs, queues, automation pipelines, and event-driven systems.
Debug production issues, improve performance, and build systems that remain reliable as products grow.
Work closely with founders, product, design, AI, and growth teams to turn ideas and user feedback into shipped product.
Help establish technical standards, engineering culture, and long-term architecture as the company scales.
Who we're looking for
Strong software engineering fundamentals and the ability to build and ship production systems end-to-end.
Proven experience building a product or major feature from scratch (0→1) rather than primarily maintaining existing systems.
Strong backend development experience using Node.js, Python, Go, Java, or similar languages.
Strong understanding of backend architecture, distributed systems, and scalable API design.
Experience designing database schemas and working with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or similar databases.
Comfortable making architectural decisions independently and understanding the trade-offs behind them.
Strong understanding of authentication, authorization, security, and performance optimization.
Experience working with Git and collaborative engineering workflows.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
A bias toward shipping over over-engineering — you know when something needs to be robust and when it just needs to work so you can learn from users.
Has built at least one production product or platform from scratch, and can clearly explain the architecture, technical decisions, trade-offs, and challenges involved.
Comfortable being the person who figures out what needs to be built when there is no existing playbook.
Useful but not required
Experience as a founding engineer or early engineering hire at a startup.
Exposure to AI, consumer products, growth systems, or scalable infrastructure at high growth stages.
Background in shipping side projects or independent products end-to-end.
