GrayQuest is building India’s largest education-focused financial services platform — embedded fee financing, lending and insurance powering 7,000+ educational institutions, from leading universities to schools across the country. As we scale, the quality of our risk, credit and collections engine is what separates durable growth from fragile growth.
We are looking for an Assistant Vice President –Risk to own the design, performance and continuous optimisation of risk across the GrayQuest ecosystem. Just as important, we expect this person to be a heavy, hands on user of AI, someone who reaches for AI tools across almost every aspect of the function, day to day, to work faster and sharpen how we manage risk, credit and collections.
What You’ll Own
Enterprise & Portfolio Risk Management
Own end-to-end risk across the company: operational risk, institution and partner-level risk, and individual customer (parent) credit risk, within a single, integrated risk management framework spanning all GrayQuest products.
Keep NPAs, delinquencies and credit losses within board-approved thresholds; establish and continuously refine credit-rating and scoring systems.
Set objectives for measuring, monitoring, evaluating and mitigating risk exposure, with timely, decision-grade reporting to leadership.
Champion a culture of risk awareness across the organisation, so risk thinking is embedded in product, sales and operations, not bolted on afterwards.
Policy, Scorecards & KPIs
Partner with the leadership team to define the right risk policies, underwriting scorecards and KPIs for each product and product type within the GrayQuest ecosystem.
Continuously innovate and update underwriting logic, proprietary policy rules and early- warning signals in conjunction with the Data & Analytics team.
Ensure all policies remain compliant with RBI digital lending norms, IRDAI corporate-agent requirements and the expectations of our lending partners.
Credit Underwriting & Operations
Own credit underwriting and credit operations across the unsecured lending book, consistently tracking the market and translating shifts into implications for the company.
Run risk due diligence for onboarding new schools, colleges, universities and institutional partners.
Build dynamic, predictive monitoring systems for the credit risk team, with strong controls and clear audit trails.
Collections & the Early-Warning Feedback Loop
Provide an overview and direction for the collections function, managing performance and translating collections behaviour into structured intelligence.
Capture early-warning feedback and signals from collections behaviour and feed them back into the onboarding and sign-up process for new customers.
Close the loop: use delinquency and collections insight to continuously sharpen onboarding screening and further optimise risk policies, so the system improves with every cohort.
Team Leadership & Development
Hire, mentor, train and manage the credit team — underwriters and credit-operations analysts, on a day-to-day basis.
Build a high-performing, AI-fluent risk team and set the standard for how modern, data- driven credit work is done at GrayQuest.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with IT, Operations, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Product and Analytics to ensure risk is embedded across the customer and institution lifecycle.
What We’re Looking For
Consumer finance experience, above all. The single most important thing for us is a strong background in consumer finance — ideally in consumer credit risk or collections risk with a real feel for how individual customers behave through the lending lifecycle.
5 to 10 years of relevant experience across risk, credit and/or collections at a bank, NBFC, credit card company or fintech, spanning underwriting, credit operations and collections.
A heavy, hands-on user of AI. Someone who already uses AI tools extensively in their own work and will bring that into almost every aspect of the risk function.
A very quick learner who can pick up new domains, tools and problems fast and put them to use straight away.
A Tier-1 education background — though we are very open to making exceptions for the right person.
Working knowledge of credit-risk practices and the regulatory landscape, RBI digital lending norms in particular
Strong quantitative and analytical ability, and the judgement to turn data into decisions.
Excellent communication, organisational and people-management skills, and the ability to build a culture of risk awareness across the organisation.
